When I drag down in excel 2000 , autofill copies the first number down in
the column, instead of increasing them by 1.

How can I change this, so that the numbers increase.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Right click when you fill down and select fill series, otherwise type 1 in
the first cell and 2 in the second,
then select both and fill down

One way is to use the Ctrl key as you use the fill handle.

Hi Earl,

it is interesting that the ctrl and fillhandle works the opposite way when
it comes to
custom text lists where it will only copy down.. For instance put Jan in a
cell and if you fill
down normally you'll get the month series while holding down ctrl and you'll
get Jan only!

Peo,

Yeah. I think that's intentional. The Ctrl key seems to modify the fill
handle behaviour in most situations, whether you've selected two cells for a
series (like two dates a week apart), or just one cell. The Shift key does
some interesting things too (insert instead of overwriting when filling).
Handy stuff!

Thank you very much.

The control key was the only solution that worked.

Funny thing is, I only had the problem in this one column.

In all other columns, I had no problem.

When i put one in the first row and two in the second, it filled the rest
1-2, then again 1-2 and the one and two kept repeating

Thanks
