Sometimes when I highlight a number of files to be deleted they are
copied instead. What causes this? More importantly how can I remove
this feature? The feature has no value as if I want to copy something
I can just call up a menu and click on copy.

This happens when you move the mouse while highlighting.

Yes: How do it stop it from doing that?

Don't move the mouse while you hold down the left mouse button.

It's caused by not having a steady hand. A small movement of the mouse
beyond a minimum amount will result in the copy.

I may not have a steady hand but its cause is the operating system.
There is almost zero use for having this built in function. There is
mo significant savings in time between jiggling a mouse and using a
pull down menu. It almost no upside and a big downside. From what you
say nothing can be done except switch to MAC.

The feature has tremendous use - it's the drag and drop
functionality. It's what allows you to click on files or folders,
drag them to a new location, and copy them when you release the mouse
button. What is happening is that as you click each file, you are
moving the mouse slightly BEFORE you release the click, which results
in the copy action.

It's a drag and drop function. Very useful. Why are you blaming the hammer
when the carpenter doesn't know how to use the tool? If your resolution is
to go to a Mac over this, that is amusing. Have fun.

Especially since I'm pretty sure Macs have Drag & Drop functionality as
well. Whether that includes copying files that way, I wouldn't know.

OP does sort of have a point, though...how hard would it be to have an
option to disallow drag & drop to the same folder?

you might try and adjust the mouse sensitivity with Control Panel Mouse.
have found it can help reduce the number of accidents.
