Autocompleting email address - not a contact

When I type a certain combination of letters an old email contact
autocompletes itself in the TO: field of a new message. It is not a
contact, and when I right click on the address and pick properties it opens
up a window entitled "E-mail Properties". How do I delete this? Before
when it gave me a drop-down menu I could highlight one of the entries and
<delete> it, but this one is the only one that comes up.

Thanks.

Before?
Before what?
Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:

Previously when I typed the first few letters I would get a dropdown box
with two or three options. I used the arrow keys and deleted them but now
when I type in the first few letters it simply autocompletes but does not
give me one of those dropdown boxes so the delete key does not work.

That would suggest that you only have one entry in the cache that matches
what you are typing. Is that the case?
