What is the latest on Autocomplete? I have it checked in my options. I see
a lot of discussion on this but no answers. Anybody figured out how to get
it to work on recipients in Windows Contacts?

Some are saying its broken due to a bad import of an old address book. Some
are saying its only functional if you send and receive from the people
first. Its not clear. There is no clear fix that I have seen.

I have sent emails to and received from the same person and it will not
complete his address. I have converted the import file from a wab file to a
csv file and imported into WM and still no luck. Any help from anyone else?

My auto complete works only on some contacts and not on others.
Many of the contacts that it is not working on are ones I have sent to and
received from --several times.
Also I have not imported any address books from any other system.
I added them all in new. I have a brand new Gateway computer with Vista HP.
Wonder if this Windows Mail problem spans all manufacters or only Gateway.
Sure would like to see a resoultion with this one.

Curiouser and curiouser!
You'd think that manual entry of new contacts would
enable the autocomplete process.
It's too bad we can't get anyone from Microsoft to
comment on this bug.

Last time I saw similar but in XP of course was when Autocomplete was
screwed up. Had the client flush all the AutoCompletes and rebooted and
everything started working again.

So, it makes me wonder a couple of things.

1) Is is just plain screwed up on first run on new machines?
2) If an upgrade was done, something not quite working right in those and
some other areas.

AutoComplete was in Protected Storage. That's now gone in Vista. That
"might" explain it for those upgrading. New computers, dunno yet but maybe
it's just not set up right when first run.

I've had more clients just buy new computers and of course, few problems
have occurred. The few that have upgraded, I've recommended they do a bit
of clean up first before installing and so far those have had no problems.

Just a thought.

Yes, and in addition I am observing some contacts which were auto-completing
a day or so ago
are not auto-completing for me today..

In some cases its been reported that an upgrade was the issue and rebuilding
the contacts fixed it, but others say not.

No telling.

I have tried all three methods now of importing settings (manual versions
and using the Windows Transfer <which is a total PITA just to get e-mail
settings across>

New machine

It sometimes works and sometimes does not... what I have noticed is it will
not show the choices as you type like Outlook Express did, so I think there
is more than one issue and it has nothing to do with how you import.

I have tried shutting off Auto Complete and turning back on and that
sometimes gets it to work, but a few messages later it stops again, and for
the same address sometimes.

Is there an official location to contact MS about this... I know it is find
and dandy all of us commenting on it, but it would help if we were
commenting to the correct location.

One question more... why change from Outlook Express? It worked....
