Autocomplete not working right

I have been working with a column of data where there are 6 different
people's names: (Alan, Chuck, Don, Frank, Rox and Vickie). The Autocomplete
option has been working nicely down the column. All the sudden, 192 cells
into it, a few of the words have stopped auto-completing. So, I have some
words (Frank, Alan and Rox) where Auto Complete is working fine and others
where I have to Type the full name in.

I have checked to make sure that the names are spelled correctly, so there
is nothing throwing off the autocomplete. I also reset the Autocomplete
on/off option. What can I do??

I'm not sure of the details, but I think Autocomplete only works from a
limited number of cells above the one you are typing into - I don't know the
number off hand. Does this tie up with your experience? That is, do the last
occurrences of Chuck, Don and Vickie lie further up than the names that do
Autocomplete? And if you manually type (say) Chuck, does Autocomplete for
this name start working again from the next cell down?

I don't think there is anything you can do about this directly. There may be
an alternative approach, though. If these are the only names, you could make
a drop-down list using Data Validation so you can select the name from the
drop-down rather than typing it. This has the advantage that spelling will
be consistent.

Thank you Stephen,

I was trying to figure this out without having to create a drop down list,
but it looks like that is what I might have to do. It is very curious
though, there are cells where I am typing the same name in a column (no other
names in between) and it does not autocomplete, but there are other names
that only show up once or twice in the entire spreadsheet and autocomplete
works!
