I installed Evidence Eliminator, one of those hard drive
cleaners, and not only did it wipe my autocomplete data,
now when I try to reactivate autocomplete, it doesn't
work. I've tried resetting ti in internet options
repeatedly. Thanks.

Try the following link to wipe out the index.dat file which may be
corrupted. When you restart the machine and fire up IE, the index.dat file
will be recreated.
