autocomplet goes off by just typing first letter of user id!!!

Hi,
~
while using IE if browsing google some of my students in a computer
lab have noticed google passwords are autocompleted by just typing the
first letter of the user id
~
I am not sure to which extent this is related to IE and/or google
(other sites out there), but this behavior needs to be stopped.
~
Why is this happening?
~
How do you do that?
