For some time now Autoarchive has not been functioning.

I am using Outlook 2002, 10.2627.2625

Autoarchive has previously operated successfully on my computer. However,
it has now not operated properly for about one year and my deleted and sent
items boxes are now at an ungainly size due to being cluttered with
unarchived items.

When I ask Outlook to autoarchive, I get the messsage that :
"Errors occurred while archiving. Look for a detailed report in your
deleted items folder."

However, the "archive log" generated is blank.

As far as I can see, no items are being archived.

What size is your Archive data file?
Have you run scanpst.exe against this data file?

The total size for the archive folder is reported by Outlook as being
1857640 KB.

This includes 1161957 kb of deleted items, and 694305kb of sent items.

No. I don't know how to do that so if I need to do so please provide
instructions.

OK, as you were:

I have now run scanpst.ext on both outlook.pst and archive.pst.

I repaired errors in archive.pst, then attempted to autoarchive. The
problem persists - no autoarchiving occurs, I get an error message, and the
archive log which appears in "deleted items" is blank.

Your Archive file has reached a size at which problems can occur, Outlook
pre 2003, data files have a size limitation of 2gb, allthough problems can
occur from 1.6gb

Within Outlook, select Archive Options, ammend the data path , for the
archive, to point to a new archive name
eg currently it will show .........\Archive amend 'Archive' to eg
Archive2009. The new Archive will be created next time you run the archive
process

Search to include hidden for scanpst.exe, double click to run the exe,
browse to Archive.pst and run it
(all with Outlook closed)
If it repairs the archive all well and good. Then there are some things you
will need to do, but cross that bridge once you get the new Archive file
created.
If scanpst cannot repair the file there are some other things that can be
done

PS Saving msgs in the deleted folder is a bad idea, the deleted folder is
for stuff you dont want to retain

Thanks, creating the new archive file seems to have solved the problem.

If this is an ANSI format PST, then it's not surprising you're not able to
write more data to it. In Outlook, rihgt-click the Archive PST's root, choose
Properties, Click Advanced and examine the Format field. if it contains the
string "97-2002", then you have an ANSI PST and it can't get any larger. With
Outlook closed, simply rename it in Windows Explorer to something else and
when AutoArchive runs again, it will create a new Archive PST.
