auto update wants to restart constantly

Hi
auto update says it has not been restarted since last update.it has been
restarted many times but still comes up

win 2k sp 4

It sounds like an update is failing to install.

Check Event Viewer for info on which update is failing then try downloading
it manually from MS downloads website.

Or if it's one you feel you can live without untick the install option
whereby you'll be asked if you want to ignore this update permanently.

Problem fixed.

I went to do a manual update and windows update refered me to an artical
for this condition and I had to remove a REBOOT REQUIRED from the registry.

What was the fix? I sometimes get this also.

In regedit go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto
Update

if there is a folder named reboot required -- remove it
