Couple of days ago I allowed an auto update to proceed, it was quite a big
download (net framework).

I have system set so I can confirm the download and when I switch off the PC
The "shutdown" option has the pending update icon and advises that XP will
install the update and shut down the system.

This has happened before and is the correct process.

However,

next morning PC would not boot with an error of missing files, no options
would work such as safe mode boot of last known good config.

I opted for a ghost image restore from the previous day - worked fine.

Now when I shutdown I am still getting the update icon as above, I am
assuming that the image contained the downloaded files that created the boot
issue.

How can I see what updates are waiting to be installed?

How can I delete them if necessary?

Can I remove net framework completey, do I need it?

Thanks for the response

I have joined group microsoft.public.windowsupdate

So I will see what happens.

I removed all programmes related to net framework.

Went to the windows update site and and found no priority updates (other
then malicious software tool)

Reboot and it appears all is well.
