Auto update problem with a twist

Somehow auto update got changed to actually download without
prompting....have since changed it back since the following
happened----

AutoUpdate grabbed the four very large Office 2003 SP2 update files
and proceeded to download them. Since I have dial up, I would never
had downloaded these very large (~35-40MB each). This little gold icon
kept showing percentage downloaded for about ten days. When it was
finished, no install was initiated.

Now these files are just sitting on my hard drive in the Windows
subdirector as BIT###.tmp files with the same date as when the
downloads ended and with the same size as the Office SP2 files. Before
I delete them, can they be forced to install? Or stated another way,
what the hell happened??

sounds to me that you are another victim of BITs issues. I had it too. MS is
working on a fix.
