Since installing SP2 none of my CDs or DVDs auto-play any more when I insert
them. I always have to manually start them, even when installing new
programs. Any way to fix that?

Thanks,

Open My Computer and Right Click on the drive then click on Properties. You
can set autoplay for all media type files.

Windows XP suffers from a bug where Auto Insert Notify is mysteriously
disabled. For some users this happens irritatingly frequently.

To fix this see:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330135/en-us

In my experience the most frequent cause is that 'Autorun' key in the
following registry location

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

has become set to '0'. Simply set it back to '1' and reboot.

I have actually exported this key to a .reg file so that I can easily
re-enable it every time it happens (about once a month).

Many other registry keys also seem to have a habit of changing themselves,
most notably, the key that causes the power status to appear in the system
tray, and the key that enables hibernation.

Autoplay Repair Wizard:

The AutoRun feature or the AutoPlay feature does not work when you insert a CD-ROM in the drive:
