Auto Recovery of Documents not saving document

Word 2003 and Windows XP

I have a firm that is using roaming profiles. This should not have anything
to do with it (?) but their documents are not being recovered upon a Word
crash. I had an attorney that worked on a document (it was a saved document)
for quite a few hours (no - they don't save often) and her Word crashed.
There was not a recovered file in the directory listed in file locations. In
fact, there are no files in that folder at any time.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Was the option set in Tools > options to save autorecover information?
At best this function was somewhat hit or miss and no substitute for
pressing CTRL+S whenever you pause for thought, though it is somewhat
improved in Word 2007. For those users who refuse to help themselves - see

I have found it surprisingly dependable in Word 2003. What I especially
appreciate is that, when Word crashes, it saves AutoRecovery files as it is
going down, so you rarely lose data that way. It's only when the system
hangs (as it has been doing for me quite frequently lately) that I get only
the latest backup (and even that is usually pretty good).

The option is set in Tools|Options|Save. This is quite a large firm and NO
ONE is getting autorecover to work in 2003. There are no MS policies being
pushed at login either. I am going to try to change the file location and
see what happens as I am beginning to think it might be the roaming profile
issue.

I have always found it pretty dependable as well (in 2003). I am going to
change the file location for the recovery because I want to eliminate the
roaming profile issue possiblity.
