When I set up Outlook 2003 originall on my lap top I hit a button that
automatically notifies someone when I delete an unread message. The laptop
is my third string computer so I delete a lot of them as I have handled them
at the office.

How do I turn this off. I have no idea how I did it in the first place.

Outlook has no such option. That option is set by the sender, not the
recipient. What makes you think you set this option?

Tools->options->email options->tracking. Turn off the option to send a read receipt.

After furious head scratching, Steve Byrd asked:

Yabut. Read receipts are set by the sender, not the recipient. OP was
mistaken if he thought he set this option. He can, however, control how he
handles RR's. You were able to discern his real question instead of the one
he posted. Clairvoyance has always been one of your skills.
