Auto DHCP screwed

I have a small 3 user network through an ADSL modem/router. Two PCs are XP
SP2 the other is Win2K. Having tried and failed to update the network
drivers in one of the XP machines, this PC now fails to collect its 'ip'
address from the router DHCP server and comes up with a default 'ip'.
Whatever I do, I cannot get this PC to take its 'ip' from the router. It
must be the PC and not the router because the other 2 machines are
connecting fine. I can get a network connection by putting in a static 'ip'
within the appropriate subnet but internet sharing will not work with this.

Is there some way that I can remove all pre-existing TCP/IP configuration on
the problem PC so that it will then take its 'ip' address from the router
again?

In a cmd window type
netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]
as explained here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;299357

You may also want to reset winsock:
netsh winsock reset catalog
but this may break some network applicaitons. The applications may have
to be reinstalled.

Great, glad it worked.

Having to reset TCP/IP and Winsock is often a sign of current or past
spyware/adware infections. You may also wish to perform some AdAware and
Spybot scans if you can't pinpoint the cause of this IP address problem.
