auto detect not working when i insert flash card in card reader !!

hi as in the subject title i'm having probs with the xp auto detect. it will auto detect cd roms and give a choise of how to open it. when i go on anybody elses desktop it auto detecs the card reader and card with no probs anyone out there have any ideas !!!!!
