auto complete not working

whenever I type in an address such as "yahoo.com" a dialog box pops up
saying it can't find the page. I have to include "www." regardless of the
website requiring a "www." in front. This doesn't happen with my other
computer or with Netscape.
What happened?

Using Windows XP home
