Authority to use Task Manager...

When I do a Alt-Control-Delete (Windows XP), a dialog box says the
administrator has not given authority to open Task Manager. But, the system
is simple, only one user, and that user is designated as administrator. I
can not find the site where the "administrator" turns on or off this
program. Anybody know? Thanks.

From Start | Run can you run msconfig and regedit? If not that could mean
there is a malware infection.

To enable the task manager, run the on Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 51: Enable the Task Manager

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

Here are some links with info on dealing with malware.

You've installed Malware, taking advantage of your administrative
privileges.

Not a good idea since an account with administrative privileges should
be used only if these privileges are required. All other activities
(eg. surfing) should happen with restricted privileges (limited account).

Already posted in this thread, however, this does *not* clean your
compromised system.

Many thanks, Rock and Detkv! I realize system has Malware. I will try using
Spyware Doctor...but Zone Alarm Pro causes installation problems with this
type of software. At least Rock's suggestion will give access to Task
Manager until the problem is resolved.
