If I set all my shares to use Authenticated Users with 'Read' rights, should
users that are logging into stand alone Win2000 pro desktops (not part of
the domain) be able to access these shares if they map a drive as a user in
the domain, or simply use the pop up authentication window when trying to
map to this share?

It appears they are getting access denied even though they use a valid
domain account?
