I have just installed windows xp and sp3 on my acer aspire 3680. The
software was all installed as 1 via a slipstreamed cd. The problem I have is
as soon as I check the audio properties via control panel then I find they
are greyed out. I have installed no other software or any updates when I
check the sound properties so this is a clean Windows XP install. This
result is windows media reporting that no sound card is installed. I have
downloaded the audio drivers from the acer website and reinstaled this but
properties are still greyed out.

The audio drivers from the acer website are Realtek High Defition Audio
Driver.

If I upgrade to windows vista then the sound fuctions as soon as software is
installed. I would like to keep xp as the OS on the laptop and I have
reverted back to windows xp.

Anyone have any ideal as to how to resolve.

PS For information purposes, I cannot find a modem driver for the laptop as
the driver from acer website does not work

Thanks

Ronnie

I have just checked Start>All Programs>Accessories> System Tools>System
Information>Components>Sound Devices. There is no sound device information
in here.

Any ideals
Thanks

Windows XP requires a Microsoft UAA Bus driver for HD Audio.
Finding XP modem drivers isn't easy. Best solution is visit Acer based
forums/NGs and see if someone has installed XP on your model and
how they did it.
