Audio Problems with MPEGs.

I've been having a problem with the audio playback when making videos with
MPEG clips. The MPEGs play normaly in Media Player, and in the collections
area of Media Maker. When I move the MPEGs to the storyboard/timeline, the
sound just becomes static.

This only affects MPEG files; WMVs and AVIs are not affected. And only the
sound is affected, video is fine. I did check the Tools > Options menu, but
that only had video filter options, and I need audio options.

Any idea how to correct this?

Sometimes Movie Maker has issues with
MPEG files, your best bet would be to convert
them to a different fomat.

Have a look at the following article:

Movie Maker 2 - Importing MPEG Files

As a work around, would it be feasible to record the sound as a wav, from the
MPEG while playing in the Media Player? Then in MM2, mute the bad sound file
and insert the wav sound into the temeline.

I tried it and it works. I tried it using a good file so that I could check
how the sound might synchronize with the video. I had to adjust it by moving
an initial picture in the timeline. A little trouble, but why not. I used
RIP Vinyl to record the sound. Thanks for your answer.

I was able to correct the problem by using Radlight's Filter Manager to make
sure the codecs were registered and prioritized properly, then used the Tools
> Options menu to select the right codecs to get the sound and video working

again.

Thanks for the help.
