audio pitch problems

In my neverending quest to get Vista working almost as well as my clunky old
XP system used to, I'm now trying to get the audio so it doesn't sound like
total crap.

I'm experiencing playback issues when playing music through itunes and videos
in windows media player. It sounds like the pitch has been modified to be
extremely low and perhaps the sound level has been clipped. It's odd because
I can kinda hear the beat of the music, so the music isn't playing slowly,
but the pitch sounds like a tape recorder that's run out of power and is
spinning at 25% of normal speed, if that makes any sense.

Any idea what is screwed up? It's a "Sigmatel high definition audio codec"
and the motherboard is an Intel DG965RYCK. It all worked fine under XP.

there's aproblem with sigmatel drivers when you upgrade to vista - they're
disabled, and you have to reinstall them. unfortunately, they only supply
drivers to oem suppliers - so to get the drivers, you go to where you bought
your pc. however - if you still have that "windows.old" file somewhere on
your drive, you can just grab the drivers there (sigmatel -> c-major ->
setup.exe), and reinstall - but you have to uninstall the inoperative sigm.
drivers first (even though they don't work). Go to sigmatel's site - it'll
make more sense.

same thing happened to me, when i went from premium to ultimate. it's easy
to fix, took like 5 minutes.
