I just noticed this problem today. No matter I use
Windows Media Player 9, or MusicMatch Jukebox, for every
music file I have, I hear a very brief pause/pop
sound after about 5 seconds from the beginning. Then it
will pay fine.

All these files play fine on another computer.

Configuration:
DELL 4500, 1.8Ghz, Win XP Home up-to-date. Several 200GB
disks connected to Promise controllers.

I have Santa Cruz card and integrated SoundMax, both
give the pop sound.

Please help.

On board sound AND a sound card ????

You may have a conflict. Try turning the on board sound off in the BIOS,
un-installing its drivers, re-booting and then see what happens.
