Audio out of sync with video toward end of long .avi save

Imported a DV-AVI file and wanted to save a long portion of it to a new .avi
file. Toward the end of the saved file, the audio and video become out of
sync. I have had this happen on several different files I have attempted
this with, and the problem appears to be quite common from reading posts on
other boards...but no one has offered any solutions that work (except for
lowering the quality, but that is not acceptable for what I am working on).
