Audio Issue - Sound only on one speaker

Hi,

I just purchased a new digital camcorder and recorded a lecture with it last
night. When I copied the tape to WMM and played it back, I only hear sound
from the right speaker. The internal mike on the camcorder was on and in
Stereo mode which should capture two channels.

Any advice on how I can troubleshoot would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Copy the audio to a WAV file, using something like TMPGEnc... and then open
the WAV file in Audacity... to see if it's actually got two channels and
you're just not hearing one.

Links to the apps are on the Setup > Other Software page of my website.

Thanks,

If I only have one channel, can either of these programs copy the channel to
the other ?

My track is mono, is there a way inside of WMM that I can make it come out
of the 2 speakers ? I've looked around the program and can't find it.

Thanks

it's not a setting in Movie Maker... but you can opt for mono in a custom
profile. See the Saving Movies > Custom WMV Profiles page of my site...

PapaJohn,

Made a lot of progress today by reading your site. Now I have a problem
which I need advice on. I taped a 34 min interview on a MiniDV tape a brought
it into WMM, edited it, put an opening screen and saved as an AVI file. The
file was over 7GiG. When I used my other camera which was an analog, 38 min
of an interview was just 2.4 GIG in MPEG.

I used a program called AVI2DVD and it said I needed a 9GIG DVD. ANy
suggetions about the way I capture from my camera to MM or something I can do
to fit it on a 4.7G DVD ?

Thanks in advance BT

The reason it is larger is that the MPEG file was compressed and the DV-AVI
file is basically raw uncompressed video. AVI2DVD is about as basic as you
can get with creating DVD's you would be far better off with a DVD Authoring
program. There is a list of the most popular ones on my website in the "DVD
Creation" section and many of them, with the exception of Nero, offer a
working trial to download.

If you have the free version of Nero that comes with some computers and some
DVD burners then it likely doesn't include Nero Vision Express which is the
subprogram Nero uses to create DVD's. If it is the full version of Nero then
yes it will do the trick.
To find out simply open Nero StartSmart, make sure the dropdown box at the
top is set to DVD not CD, go to the "Photo and Video" icon and click "Make
Your Own DVD Video" if you have Nero Vision Express then it will open. If
not you will be given the option of upgrading to the full version which I
recommend doing.
