I uninstalled the SigmaTel adapter, no problem. But when I reboot, Vista
automatically installs a microsoft sound driver 'High Definition Audio
Device'. So I when to Device Manager and unstalled that, rebooted but Vista
automatically re-installed.
Do I need to get to a state where there is NO sound driver before I install
the new one from Dell? Or do you think it's OK to install the new SigmaTel
driver from Dell now?
If I need to get to a 'no Sound driver' state, how to I prevent Vista from
automatically reinstalling 'High Definition Audio Device'? I thought I'd try
to disable it, but once you uninstall the driver, you don't have the ability
to disable it.
Thanks and let me know...

I installed the new driver I got from Dell, my entry under Control
Panel/Sound is back to 'SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC', the driver
version is now 6.10.0.5511 BUT.... I still only have Microphone, Rear Mic and
Line In on the 'Recording' tab. With 'Line In' selected (as before) I still
cannot hear what I'm recording.
Any more thoughts?

Apparently, the "Stereo Mix" - "What-U-Hear" - or similar option is not
available with the current Sigma Tel drivers.

You can only hope the your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer
will provide this functionality in the future.
