Audio Device Not Found

Trying to helping a friend with no sound on her machine. It is a HP Pavilion and using Belarc
it shows Realtec AC97 in the Multimedia section. I have downloaded and installed the Realtec
drivers from DriversGuide, still no audio device. Of course no volume control in the systray.
I'm hoping she can find the original motherboard CD. In the meantime, any thoughts?
