Audio device driver for Modem not accepted

Got a Hewlett-Packard "Pavilion" with Windows-XP.
Tried to connect to Internet with Modems (Devolo Fun USB
resp. ELSA MicroLink internet c, Vers. B).
System would not accept the driver (on install-CD) and
denied further working ...
Common problem? Solution?
