I am unable to burn an audio CD that does not skip.
I have tried all speeds down to 2x.
I have tired three different software:
XP, Musicmatch, Cakewalk Pyro

Is there some way to diagnose the problem?

Possible conflict ? Try this :

Right Click on My Computer > Manage > Services and Applications > Services >
disable IMPAI CD bruning ROM service > close down the window > delete one of
the other two software > re-boot and try burning a CD using the software you
kept.
