Hi, my main issue at this time, i believe it may be related to sp3. but not
certain. I have recently formatted my computer. multiple times. and after
installing Windows Live Messenger, and my webcam. both seperately, when i go
in the audio and video setup in WLM as soon as i click the option to edit or
set it up, WLM freezes up and the only way to close it is to control alt
delete it.

i've even tried going back to an older version of WLM and still the same
problem, i've updated the webcam, with logitechs newest up dates and still
nothing but freezing.

what is causing this, or how can I fix it?

I have got Windows Live Messenger working correctly with my Logitech
QuickCam Pro 5000 correctly. Make sure the PC is clean of possible
viruses and other spywares, before you install the Window Live
Messenger / QuickCam.

Also, clear out the Temporary folders and use an "administrator" type
account.

Also, which version of the QuickCam software you are using and which
web cam?

Is Automatic Updates enabled?

Can you do the following successfully?...

1. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com;

2. Install any required Windows Update-related software, if offered, then
click CONTINUE;

3. Select CUSTOM and scan;

4. Select & install any critical security updates offered; follow all
prompts.

NB: I would not recommend installing IE7 via Windows Update if it's not
already installed. If IE7 is already installed, look for a Root
Certificates update in Optional category; if it's available, install it to
take full advantage of IE7's enhanced security. (Root Certificates updates
are not offered via Automatic Updates, for some unfathomable reason.)

Hi,

i don't have a straight answer to your problem, but it might
be an idea just to try to install an other webcam.

maybe it is possible to borrow one and see how it turns
out. it's not the best idea, but spending lots and lots of time
can be very frustrating.

well ya obviously i have all the updates off windows update... but no worries
it was the version 8.5 of WLM that was the problem. some glitch in it i
guess. because i just installed the newest one, the 2009 version and the cam
works fine once again.
so it was a WLM screw up

ok so never mind, i talked too fast, in the new version i was able to go into
the main setup for audio and video without WLM freezing up. but when i start
the webcam in a convo it works right up until the other person accepts the
invitation. the all hell brakes loose and freezes right back up.

yes automatic updates is enabled. and yes i have done the second question
too. everything is done, that you have suggested
