"Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for
Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems."

Has anyone used this? Comments, please.

It's the best thing you can get if you want an open source audio
processing app.

I've been using it for about a year now, and I don't know of a better
freeware multi-track audio editor.

If you will be wanting to use a lot audio fx, I would recommend you also
download the VST Enabler from the plugin section of the audacity download
page

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

This will let you use VST plug-ins in Audacity and there are literally
hundreds of free plug-ins available. ( KVR is a good place to start looking)

If not everything, then at least money should be free.

I use audacity several times a week for editing small soundfiles. The
only gripe I have about it is the default noise removal tool is
something of a blunt instrument, but there is probably a plugin for it
somewhere if I'd just look hard enough.
