Auaudt.exe appears to be a Windows process that runs at boot and when
checking for MS updates, however the performance of it is the pits! When it
runs it takes 100% of my system for several sections to a few minutes. Are
there anyother options for this porcess?

Actually, a Google for "Auaudt.exe" brings up nothing and I don't think
this is a Windows process. I'd make sure the computer was
malware/virus-clean and if it is, do clean-boot troubleshooting to see
if you can identify where this file is coming from.

Yeah, isn't it the pits when the computer doesn't know what you *meant*
to type? Mine does that all the time. ;-)

Well, you could do manual checks for updates although I don't really
recommend that. You didn't mention how much RAM you have or any of your
system specs or even how you connect to the Internet.

If you have an older, slower machine that works well otherwise you might
try adding RAM. You want at least 512MB with XP. I notice that when
Windows Update is working on older machines it is definitely slower than
on newer, faster machines.

Otherwise I'd just go get a cup of coffee and live with it. If this
isn't acceptable or if this is new unwanted behavior, then post your
question with more details (such as the ones I mentioned above) in the
Windows Update newsgroup:
