Wally you previously asked:

What does it show in Device Manager - Properties ?

I didn't see your comments in reply to my answer for this unless when
you said 'No problems so far." or was this in answer to my Disk
Cleanup question?

What is ERUNDT and how do I access/use it etc?

JS:
How am I to know what is safe to select to delete when using
CCleaner?

Any other comments/suggestions would be welcome.

Also, Alias mentioned not using the Issues feature but I don't see
anything with 'Issues' on CCleaner.

When I was trying to find more about ERUNDT which I understand it is
essentially a registry backup I also found this: NTREGOPT. I assume to
run ERUNDT I need to download it from the offical site and creates a
registry back up? However, according to this

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

information I should disable XP's System Restore as it's a resource
hog, yet without it I would have been in serious trouble on more than
one occasion.

It seems rather involved and kind of scary. I was under the impression
that if I had an external hardrive I could back up my entire operating
system? Am I not understanding something? It seems just when I think
I'm nearly finished with this another thing keeps popping up that
needs to be done.

I hate to keep bothering you guys, and I want you to know I do
appreciate all your great advice.
Another small problem has come up. You know how when you move your
mouse pointer over the time it pops up to display the date? Well until
tonight mine did so but for some reason now all I see is the barely
the top when it pops up as if it's hidden. Any suggestions to return
it to normal?

Robert

Post your questions to the original thread where the questions first
arose. You have created a single thread unconnected to the original
threads.

My PC did this once but cleared up the next day so I did not look for any
solutions, but look at this KB article:
"Tooltips for some taskbar icons are hidden behind the taskbar on a Windows
XP-based computer"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912650

ERUNT only backs up the registry,
Take a complete registry backup using ERUNT:
http://www.winxptutor.com/regback.htm

System Restore backs up the Registry and additional files (but not all).
See: Windows XP System Restore Is Easy to Use
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...w_03may19.mspx

What you need for a good recovery method is an Image Backup tool such as
Ghost or True Image, where the image file is stored to the external drive.
True Image:
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing...age/index.html
Ghost:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/produ...r&pvid=ghost12

The 'Issues' feature is a "Blue Cube" located in the upper left corner.
Unless you known in great detail how to analyze the list generated when you
click the 'Scan for Issues' button, I would not run this feature in
CCleaner.

My answer was about CCleaner, I believe. I didn't see your answer
regarding what Device Manager-properties showed about your DVD drive.

>What is ERUNDT and how do I access/use it etc?

From another post, I noticed some questions about ERUNT. Don't
disable System Restore. I was suprised to read that.

What ERUNT does is backup your registry and makes a folder
C:\Windows\Erunt. Read the restore part of this page -

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-on...runt/erunt.txt

ERUNT is handy if your registry is hosed somehow and you want to
restore it. I use it to make a copy of the registry when I install a
program and if I have trouble, or don't like the program, I restore the
registry with ERUNT.

If you're not comfortable with ERUNT, just don't use it. Sometime down
the road, you can revisit it.

Just ignore the NTREGOPT part. You don't need that, particularly if
you're uncomfortable with it.

You just have to do some research. Again, if you're not comfortable
using a program, don't use it.

BTW, have you tried to burn any cd's or dvd's ?

Hmm, I didn't either. With CCleaner, look at the Cleaner - Windows and
Applications checkboxes. You can figure out what you want cleaned and
just check the checkboxes.

Although there is a good chance that using the registry cleaner option
won't cause a problem, there is a chance it could.
DON'T use the registry cleaner part of CCleaner unless you are 100% sure
of what you're doing.
If you do decide to try the registry part, make sure to backup the
changes. - The program will ask you if you want to.
