i just got my 160gig maxtor sata drive in. i would like to clone it to
the new 160 (was planning on giving my 80 to my mom). i have ghost2k3,
XP home w/ sp1, and access to pretty much anything else i might need.
i would rather not format and do a clean install. i have cloned the
drive, i can boot to the 160 (shows up as f, can't change it when it
is the boot drive), but it will only boot up with the 80 plugged in. i
even moved the pagefile to f, using system properties/advanced/etc. am
i having a brain fart, am i missing something, or am i just frellin
hosed here? should i try ghose 2k3 thru a bootdisk (i fugure it
wouldn't work due to the sata setup)? or ghost, shutdown and swap with
just the one drive so it can't link to the 80? thanx in advance

System Specs:
Asus A7N8X Del 2.0 (1007 Uber bios)
2500+ @3200+ (2.24 Ghz) 203 fsb (still playing with it)
Thermalright SLK-800(A) (with AS3 and 80mm Denki fan)
1Gb Corsair pc3200 CL2 (2 sticks, with platnium heat spreaders)
Radeon 9700 Pro retail w/Aluminum ram sinks
80gig WD SE 7200rpm (XP Home SP1)
Optorite dd0203 DVD burner
Artec 52x24x52 cdrw
Lian-Li pc10 (with window and light mod)
550W Antec True Power PSU
Phoebe v.92 pci modem
onboard sound
onboard nic

No need.

Thats where you went wrong, lettting XP see both the
original drive and the clone on the first boot after the clone.

You should have done the clone, from the rescue floppys
or the bootable distribution CD, AND THEN PHYSICALLY
DISCONNECTED THE 80GB DRIVE AND LEFT JUST THE
160GB DRIVE CONNECTED, for the first boot after the clone.

Its not absolutely essential to do it from the rescue floppy
or the distribution CD, but doing it that way makes it easier
to ensure that you dont let the first boot of XP after the
clone see both the original and the clone.

Just do it again now, and do it like that.

Wont help.

Yes.

Yes.

Not permanently.

Should still work fine because the
bios should still see the sata fine.

First boot after the clone with just
the 160GB drive connected, yes.

Yes, he certainly is.
What he doesn't know he will gladly make up for you.
How's that for service? You can't get any better than that, can you.
