In a testimonial to the popularity of our beloved John Corliss,
two new Usenet newsgroups have been created in his honor. I
direct your attention to the following:

alt.idiot-savant.without-the.savant-part.john-corliss

alt.i-think.therefore.i-dont.listen-to.john-corliss

I wish I could take credit for their inception, but alas I am a
mere humble subject of the esteemed Mr. Corliss. These groups are
for real. Check them out in your reader.

All adware, warez and pirated software.

Can someone please explain why someone apparently dislikes Mr. Corliss
enough to try to embarrass him in this manner? I confess that I don't hang
out here regularly, so I don't know the backstory.

Amazing. I checked my newsgroup list, and found all the following groups in
"honor" of John Corliss:

alt.blowitoutyouass.john-corliss
alt.bonehead.john-corliss
alt.i-think.therefore.i-dont.listen-to.john-corliss
alt.idiot-savant.without-the.savant-part.john-corliss
alt.troll.john-corliss
alt.turd-burglar.john-corliss
alt.usenet.kooks.john-corliss

I have no axe to grind either way, but it does seem strange that people are
creating newsgroups like this. Seems like a waste of bandwidth to me. If
all the junk newsgroups were deleted, it wouldn't take so long to download a
list of newsgroups from my news server.

If you really want to know, search Google Groups. Don't feed the trolls!

Joe,
John is not a bad guy in my experience. He's fairly vocal about his
particular feelings regarding the subject under discussion, and has in
the past been flamed for his strong conviction. He also is not afraid of
confrontation, and replies to these flames in kind. He'd do well to let
the flames go, but I respect the fact that he doesn't lay down and
sticks to his convictions. For the time I've spent here, he's lost his
temper at times, but only after being provoked. Unless pushed, he's
always been curtious and helpful to those who ask. I only see John's
postings in this group so I can only speak for what I've seen, but he's
never done me any dirt. Based on the postings in ACF over that last
couple of years, I must conclude that the hatred for John must come from
postings in another group or groups, cause I think his input is, for the
most part, very welcomed here. I, for one, think he's a valuable member
of the ACF community as it is.

JC has an obsession with freeware - seems healthy enough, it's a
worthwhile cause.
Some people have an obsession with JC - you can make your own mind up
on that one. Keeps 'em off the streets I s'pose.

Regards,

I shouldn't go on like this - you'll end up on their hatelist too.

I will ask all participants of this group refrain from
ruining it by getting into meaningless personal flames.
Lets stay focused on the main topic, and let the flame
wars be fought elsewhere, and god knows there are other
groups that are saturated by such crap..

So, PLEASE, PLEASE...
