Hello Daniel, pardon the direct request but I'd like to get an answer
to this previous post. If you don't know the answers, would you
kindly forward it to someone who does?

When poking through the registry on a Win2K SP3 machine
I discovered the "SharedSection" of this key...:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\
SubSystems\Windows

....has four parameters: 1024,3072,512,512

I was able to locate the purpose of the first three parameters in
MS's tech database:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;184802
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;126962
but I can't find any notes related to the 4th parameter. Could you
please tell me its purpose or refer me to a tech note that does
explain it?

Also, I've read that removing the Optional, Os2 & Posix keys in
Session Manager\SubSystems will free up memory/resources
(I'm not using any of them). Is this correct?

Thanks,
Rick

The 4th parameter (512) TSonly:

===========================

(Windows 2000) defines the desktop heap size for Windows 2000 Terminal
Services

clients. Default value is 512

Thank you! How about the other question, regarding removal
of the Optional/Os2/Posix keys possibly freeing up memory and
resources?

Thanks again,
Rick

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may

require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee
that you can solve

problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry
Editor at your own

risk.

320869 How to Prevent Windows from Loading the Optional OS/2 and POSIX
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320869

I would recommend backing up both the key and a copy of your system hive
prior to the changes (go into ntbackup and make a new ERD and save Registry
to Regback folder). Yes you can delete the data in "Optional" value
(REG_MULTI_SZ) so that the Posix and Os2 components are not loaded.

Does this answer your questions Rick?
