I posted this on 26th June and haven't had a reply; I have modifed this
original post to include some more information.
MS lists the main folder permissions as:
Full Control
Modify
Read & Execute
List Folder Contents
Read
Write
Each of these main permissions are made up of combinations of special
permissions. These combinations are detailed in the W2K Help file as well as
on Microsoft's website.
The Write permission is listed as being made up of:
Create Files/Write Data
Create Folders/Append Data
Write Attributes
Write Extended Attributes
Read Permissions
Synchronize
However, if you set permissions on a folder to Write, then view the Advanced
properties of the permissions "Read Permissions" is not listed as one of the
component permissions. Additionally, if you give a user Write-only
permissions on a folder they are NOT able to view the NTFS permissions of
that folder, which corresponds with to the fact that "Read Permissions" are
not in fact part of Write. (Note "Read Permissions" allows or denies reading
permissions of the file or folder, such as Full Control, Read, and Write).
If anybody can shed any light on the matter I would appreciate it.
