My office recently upgraded from a POP email account to a hosted Exchange
account. Since the switch everyone has been periodically recieving an error
saying that Outlook 2007 is attempting to contact the Exchange server. It
will continue to say this until you right click the Outlook icon in the tray
and tell it to cancel server request. It usually happens when we try to send
an email, but occasionally it happens for no apparent reason. There is a mix
of XP SP2 and Vista computers that are all experiencing the problem. I am
able to ping the Exchange server without any problems. Also, our ISP and the
company hosting our email have been unable to find a solution. Any
suggestions would be helpful.

It does sound like you have intermittent connectivity to your Exchange
Server. Have you tried setting up a continuous PING (ping -t) so that you
can switch to it when the problem occurs and see if there was a recent (like
in the last few seconds) break in connectivity?

Also look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833007/ - it relates to Outlook
2003 so I don't know if the settings are the same in Outlook 2007 though...
it could just be that your timeout is set too low for a hosted solution.

Finally, check out http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839862. Another Outlook
2002/2003 article, but most of it should still apply. There are some
client-side tricks you could try from there.

I have tried a ping -t and let it run for an entire day without any problems.
Thanks for the links to those articles, but I have already read and tried
them. They don't really apply because they are for updates to Outlook 2003
and not for Outlook 2007. Thanks for the help though.

Hi again

It only just occurred to me to ask... are you using RPC over HTTP? If so,
check out http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831060 if you haven't done so yet.

Also when normal PING shows nothing useful, you may see something with RPC
Ping... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831051

You might also find the guys on the Exchange community will have more
experience with this kind of thing...
