When accessing my email via the browser at home, the
attachments don't open directly. I need to save them
1st. This don't happen when I'm accessing my email from
a remote browser (ie. at a friend). Nor does it happen
when I use outlook to open my email. The problem occurs
even when I turn antivirus off.

Open Outlook Express and from the Toolbar select:
Tools > Options > Security (tab) and uncheck:

"DO NOT ALLOW ATTACHMENTS TO BE SAVED
OR OPENED THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE A VIRUS"
and click APPLY.
