when opening attachments it automatically goes to Media Center which can not
open it. should go to acrobat. this is a new Dell laptop and has never been
able to open atachments.

With Office / Outlook closed, insert your Office cd and run Office
diagnostics, to see if that helps

If it's a PDF file, save it to disk, right-click it, select Open With>Choose
Program, and choose the application that should open it (Abobe Acrobat or
Adobe Reader), also checking the box that says "Always use the selected
program..."
