Even if you haven't changed any Outlook settings other changes may have
occurred.

Have you run Windows Update? Upgraded/updated antivirus (definitions or
engine)? Added any new applications? Do any applications integrate with
Outlook?

Your PC is never static, things change daily so there may be lots of reasons
you are seeing behaviour change. The fact that you can't open the attachments
even when you save them to the desktop, eliminating Outlook from the picture,
tells me this may not be an Outlook issue.

Have you checked your Event Viewer for any errors? Check both the
Application Event Viewer and System Event Viewer for errors.

thanx Kathleen for the reply,

plz note that i m fwding the same msg to my friend and she is able to open
them normally inside the outlook..
then she is saving them for me on our server and i m able to open them
normally from my desktop (even with the Chinese characters found in the name)
thus, i think the problem is for outlook, since i m able to open the same
file on my pc.

So just to clarify:
1) You receive an attachment in Outlook that has Chinese characters in the
name.
2) You cannot open the attachment in Outlook
3) If you save the file to your desktop, you still cannot open the attachment
4) If you forward the email with the attachment to a coworker, she can open
the attachment
5) Once she has done that and saved it to the server, then you can open the
attachment?

If you receive alot of these attachments, try this:

If not, are you able to open other attachments just fine? Check your event
viewer for any errors.

hi Kathleen,

already cleared the OLK file from before, as i thought this is the problem
too..
but the issue is i was and still able to open all other attachments..
only attachments with Chinese characters are not opening.
for example
jpg files, no preview available
xls, it opens but the sheet is empty inside (even if size is 952KB)

thanx

If you log onto another PC and set up your Outlook profile there, does the
same thing happen?

I have an update for this hopeless case

i attached a jpg file with Chinese characters to a new msg in outlook, and
i was able to open the pic and see it from the composed email.
then i sent the email to my email address.
when i read it from the inbox, i wasnt able to open the pic and had the same
issue (no preview available)

thanx
