I use Outlook Express 2003. For some reason, almost everytime I receive an
email with an attachment, be it a .pdf, tiff, or other type of file, Outlook
crashes. However, when I go online to my hotmail account and send the email
to myself, it doesn't crash. I am trying to figure out how I can fix that.
Any help would be great. Thanks. Nat

Hi Nat

Just to clarify, there is no such application as Outlook Express 2003.
You're either using Microsoft Outlook (version number to be determined) or
Outlook Express (which is part of Internet Explorer. In spite of the names
sounding similar, they're not the same application at all. Please click on
the Help button and scroll to About to verify what email client you're
actually using.

To help troubleshoot, please let me know what type of mail account you have.
Have you also checked your Application Event Viewer for any errors? If you
see any, please post the eventID number and source.

Also, if you see that you're using Microsoft Outlook please clear out the
Outlook cache:

No you don't. There is no such thing. Click Help>About and tell us what
you're really using.

It says Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

I looked at the application event viewer and I think this is what it showed
the last time it crashed.

Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8169.0, stamp 465f28e3,
faulting module searchtree.dll, version 2.6.3.6, stamp 481f3ef4, debug? 0,
fault address 0x0000568a.

Although I am not entirely sure if that is the right one.

> faulting module searchtree.dll
It looks like you have a 3rd party addin installed which causes this.
Disable/uninstall/update this addin and try again.
