Whenever I open an attachment to an email after opening windows mail it opens
fine. If I then try to open a second attachment to the same or a different
email windows mail freezes, closes and reopens. Then the same again - first
attachment opens fine, next causes the same procedure. How can I overcome

There is a known attachments problem caused by a recent update to
Norton antivirus. There may be a newer update that corrects the problem,
so first try updating your Norton antivirus.

Norton Antivirus users are entitled to a free upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009,
which cures the problem. If interested, contact Symantec via online chat.

As a last resort, uninstall Norton antivirus and follow up with their debris removal tool:
