The problem:
I have a small office of 40 people running almost entirely with Outlook 2003
connecting to a local Exchange Server 2003. When a user tries to open an
attachment in mail I am intermittently recieving "The operation failed. An
object could not be found." aka the most cryptic error message Outlook
displays.

The configuration: Windows XP machine running on a fairly new Dell. Outlook
2003 is set up NOT to use caching mode. There are no PST or archived folders
involved.

What I've tried:
*Deleting the profile and recreating it. (probably 25 times in a variety of
ways)
*Clearing the form cache and locating any residing FRMCACHE.DAT files
*Deleting ghost pst
(http://www.publicshareware.com/outlo...ix-profile.php)
*Deleting everything including outcmd.dat in C:\Documents and
Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
*Deleting everything including extend.dat in C:\Documents and
Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
*Run a Detect & Repair on Outlook.
*Checked the registry entries of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\
and
HKEY_USERS\<user id identifier>\ Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\ Profiles\<profile name>\ <cryptic
alphanumeric code>

Any help would be useful.

All those settings have nothing to do with opening attachments ;-)

Many thanks rob. That did it.

I bow and chant "I'm not worthy" to the master of helping point out that
which is under our nose.

Any thoughts on what to do if this doesn't continue to resolve the issue?

I followed http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/securetemp.htm and cleaned the
temp files out, then double checked my previous steps, but I'm still having
at least one user with a continuing issue with attachments.

???
