I've been using Atlantis Nova for RTFs for a short time now and I'm
extremely impressed. It's almost managed to pull away from WordTabs, my old
standby. But Atlantis doesn't seem to handle Japanese characters correctly.
(They all have huge spaces between them.) If that's repaired, I'll switch
all the way over.

I've tried them all Abiword. Jarte, Cryptedit, Textshield etc. I think
Atlantis is by far the most stable, reliable and easiest to use for RTF.
I've been thinking of updating to Atlantis Ocean etc, but one always has
Open Office for MS Word & more complex documents.

Open Office may be slow to open on older PC's like mine, but should offer
all you need. The latest version seems reliable and for technophobes like me
most of it seems quite easy to learn. Also there are plenty of people here,
who seem very happy to help anyway.

I think Atlantis is brilliant, 'WYSIWYG' is literally it, and I produce
100's of letters and other stuff on it every month. Where it's got to be
circulated for Office etc, I paste the RTF into Open Office, and just save
it as MS Word.

If I recall correctly, Atlantis Nova, unlike Atlantis (not freeware)
does not have a spell checker. The latest version of AbiWord does have
a spell checker and can save in both native, RTF, and DOC formats. It
seems quite stable. I need a werd procesor with a spel cheker
