ATI TV Tuner - Recording TV - Video/Sound Issues

Specs:
Win XP
ATI TV Wonder (PCI)
ATI radeon 9700 pro
512 meg of memory
ati 7.9 media center

I have had and been running this setup for a while and I
could watch tv and everything with no problem, but when I
tried to record tv, the sound was low and crackly.

I just reloaded my machine and got updated
drivers/software for ati products. ATI media center 8.9
(I think it was)

and when I ran this new setup I could not watch tv, the
sound was either real low and scratch or if I changed
input on sound tool bar - volume was fine but it was out
of sink with the video by a couple seconds.

So I reloaded my machine again - went back to old drivers
and tried just media center 8.9 and that is what is
causing the problem.

When I run the compatibility check or whatever it is
called. It says that I must have direct x 9.0 or greater
installed (for both 7.9 and 8.9 media center) and I do
have that (installed that before I installed any ATI
drivers or software) and it still does not work.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you need more info please let me know.

caling cost like $1.25 a min and couldnt find email
address, under support all they had was phone numbers.

When I was looking at this issue when I first built my PC,
on their website, they said (for 7.9 media center) that
they knew about this probme on some machines, and their
response was basically, too bad.

I just went through same bullshit with 8.9, e.g. no composite in available
(Radeon Vivo here).

Kept Cat 4.2's but MMC 7.7 installed and gave me back vido in so I don't
care past that.

Now you know why ATI sucks the big one! Try and email and you won't get any
further either. This ATI I have is the last I'll have. They don't even have
a forum.

you could do some snooping at www.lordsmurf.com. He's a diehard ATI addict.
You could also try www.dvdrhelp.com.. Good luck My mmc told me it wanted a
radeon class video card. Funny how their software can't even recognize their
own video card. Not to worry, Dad loves his win 98 and his 'new video card'.
It's Nvidia for me.

Yea, it gets worse with ATI's installs if your run two ATI video cards at
same time (Radeon and Xpert98 here). You basically have to physically remove
cards to update the primary displays driver. It appears their installation
routine is too stupid to look for ALL cards in system and "stops" looking
after finding the 1st ATI card on the PCI bus so never even looks at the AGP
bus, hence installs just terminate with a "not found" style message.

I do have to say that to date (4 days) XP seems to be less problamatic is
this regard over my prior experience under 98SE.
