Cannot get this pair to install in my newly upgraded xp pro installation
(over win98se).

xp won't let me uninstall the old set of video card drivers from the
control panel. This is recommended by the ati drivers install setup
though I thought I'd done so in win98 before upgrading. If I attempt to
install the latest set of ati xp drivers anyway I get a blank screen and
no load after the mandatory restart.

If I then attempt to manually install the drivers from the extracted ati
..inf files after restoring, the card seems to install fine but then
crashes if I attempt to change screen resolution or install the Taxan
Ergovision 735TCO99 17" crt monitor.

Also, after the ati card is 'installed', device manager shows it on a pci
bus and not agp.

I've tried every set of xp drivers available from ati and those for
win2000 but no deal. I've also installed the latest set of via drivers
for the mobo.

I could try a repair or fresh install but I'm after a simpler fix if
possible.
