ATI Radeon9600pro 256MB does not get AGP8X with Asus P4G8X?

As title, Asus claims that P4G8X supports AGP8X and Radeon 9600 Pro also
supposed to get up to 8X.
But the BIOS setup in Asus MB does not provide 0.8V and AGP speed has no 8X
option.
Am I getting AGP8X? I guess not, at least the Catalyst control panel says
only 4X and I don't feel faster(actually slower) comparing to my previous
AIW 8500.
Well, I upgrade the card because of needing a dual display. Really hope it
runs smoother than now...

Thanks for your info

Harry:

Yes, I had the same problem with my Asus K8V SE Deluxe. CCC did not list 8x
available in its control panel. I assume it's the same with your mb? -
Found out that their is a driver on the CD that came with the AsusMB that I
forgot to install to run AGP8x mode - from ATI's knowledge base.

You should see the driver listed under 'Control Panel - System - Hardware -
DeviceManager - System devices - VIA CPU to AGP2.0/AGP3.0 Controller'. If
you don't have it listed, install it from the CD you got with the Asus
mother board.

(I ran this mb for a year not realizing I forgot to install this driver. -
At least I got something good out of this revelation!)

Thank you for the tip, I followed your suggestion and downloaded an AGP
driver from Intel. My Asus P4G8X is using Intel chipset.
Unfortunately, I am still at the same spot--1.5V, 4X.
I think my MB is only supporting 1.5V AGP voltage and it will not reach 8X
in my case. This board is a gimmick!!

Harry:

Did you get a CD from Ausu? The driver will be on the CD. If you didn't,
try going to Asus' web site and see if they have the driver listed for that
MB to download. It would be MB specific and I doubt Intel would have it.

On my MB, the voltage can be set in the bios, don't know about your board.
Perhaps your board is a little long in age? DNK.

Hope this helps.

ATI comparison webpage shows the 9600pro as 2X,4X. The XT is 4X,8X. Thought
my AIW9600XT was 2X,4X, now have another reason to get a newer M/B

Take a look at the ASUS site. It looks like this may be a bios
problem. Version 1001 was updated to version 1002 to "improve AGP 8X
timing". They are up to version 1006 but that is still 06/24/2003..

This link will get you close..

I have 1006 BIOS installed but there is no 0.8V available, only 1.5, 1.6 and
1.7...
The MB specifically says supporting down to 1.5V only.
Question is --is there anything support 8X at 1.5V?
My MB comes with a so called AGP pro slot!

Socket 478

Chipset: Intel E7205 MCH

Intel 82801DB ICH4

Expansion slots: 1xAGP Pro/8X (1.5V only)

Can not find my original CD for Asus. The newest BIOS I can get is 1006 and
that's what I am using.
No 1.5V or AGP8X option to choose.
