I recently installed an ATI 9600 pro but windows will not
allow me to install the drivers for it. I've dowloaded the
latest catalyst drivers from ATI and all of my chipset
drivers are up to date. I get a message that tells me data
is invalid and to try installing a standard VGA driver
before attempting to install.I also used windows update
but it failed during installation. I'm stuck and need
some help.

u might try:
www.rage3d.com
go to the forums and look for the radeon technical support board...
there's a "sticky" post that tells how to do a clean-up and install for
radeon drivers
I wouldn't use the web-based install for ATI drivers

Go to a run of MSConfig.exe (if necessary after booting to Safe Mode)
and on that in the Boot.ini page check /BASEVIDEO and reboot.

You should now be able to run the downloaded catalyst set and have them
install - if they still will not, go to Control Panel - System -
Hardware - Device Manager, find the adapter and double click - on the
Driver page, click to uninstall the drivers, and then try

Before rebooting after the installation has gone through, run MSConfig
again, to uncheck the box. Once you reboot, there will be a message
about 'Troubleshooting' - check the 'dont show again' box and OK
