Hi,

My MCE is hooked up to my 16:9 widescreen TV (normal CRT) using S-Video. The
videocard is an ATI Radeon 9550, using Catalyst 6.1. Signal is PAL B
(Belgium).

After some experiments, I set the resolution to 1024 x 768 with overscan
enabled in Catalyst Control Center. However the aspect ratio is 4:3.

I want to try to set the resolution to 1024 x 576, but I can't seem to find
it in Catalyst Control Center. Are custom resolution supported? Would this
resolution solve my problem? Will MCE "detect" the 16:9 aspect ratio?

That resolution is not possible using a S-video connection.
S-video is limited to 640 X 480, 800 X 600, or 1024 X 768, all at 50 or 60
Hz.

Thanks for the quick response.

So if I really wanted 16:9, I would have to buy an TFT/Plasma screen so I
can connect it using VGA of DVI? There is no way of getting 16:9 on my CRT
TV?

You need a TV that has DVI or Component inputs, or you need to scale the
image somehow, which the TV may be able to do from composite or S-video.

This has nothing to do with the set being TFT or Plasma or CRT--there are
many CRT sets with DVI or component inputs, and I'm very surprised that
anyone is selling a 16:9 set that doesn't have one or the other.
